OPEN BRIEFING

The Hot Science-Global Citizens Research team presented at Parliament House a summary of new research on communicating and managing climate change, with a particular emphasis on the views and opinions of ordinary Australians on climate change policy directions and their roles in decision-making. The event was attended by over 60 people, including Kelvin Thomson, MP, Adam Bandt, MP and Mark Dreyfus QC, MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.

Topics included:

• New input from humanities and social sciences on how to communicate climate change and generate positive actions

• How to handle controversies and uncertainties around climate change

• Tapping the opinions and beliefs of ordinary Australians on climate change issues and bringing them into policy processes

• Promoting robust debate and culturally intelligent policies on climate change

• Exploring potential roles for museums and other cultural institutions in this process
